Scawsby Saltersgate Infant School

Overview

Scawsby Saltersgate Infant School continues to be a good school, characterised by high expectations and a strong sense of community. Pupils achieve well in reading and mathematics, though performance in other curriculum subjects is less consistent. The school fosters a safe, happy environment where pupils feel secure and engaged.

Strengths

• Pupils achieve well in reading and mathematics, with significant improvements in early reading following the introduction of a new phonics curriculum.
• The school has a ‘family-feel’ at the heart of the community, with pupils feeling safe and happy.
• Staff are well supported regarding workload and well-being, and the school is well led and managed.
• The curriculum is adapted effectively for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), who are achieving well.
• Behaviour has improved significantly, with disruption to learning now occurring very rarely.

Areas to improve

• Leaders should review their pedagogical approach to curriculum implementation so that all pupils have greater opportunities to achieve the school’s ambitious curriculum intent in subjects where detailed knowledge and skills are not developing sufficiently.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
