Sherwood Foundation School

Overview

Sherwood Park School continues to be a good school, providing a nurturing environment where pupils thrive. The school’s commitment to ‘breaking the mould’ is woven into its culture, with staff forging strong, trusting relationships that support pupils’ self-regulation and independence.

Strengths

• Staff demonstrate an ‘acute understanding of their individual needs’, helping pupils develop self-regulation skills and independence.
• The curriculum is structured into four pathways, with sensory and communication needs ‘well provided for’ through informal learning opportunities.
• A whole-school approach to literacy ensures every pupil is supported to become a reader and writer, regardless of the complexity of their needs.
• Pupils are ‘prepared exceptionally well to be confident, independent and ready for adulthood’ through meaningful contributions to school life.
• The school fosters an inclusive culture that ‘celebrates diversity’, with parents appreciating the consideration of their child’s spirituality and individuality.

Areas to improve

• Leaders should complete the implementation of the new curriculum for pupils accessing more formal learning, ensuring essential knowledge is ‘set out for all pathways’ so these pupils can make greater progress.
