8th of 13 secondary schools in Kingston upon Hull, City of we can score. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.

What Ofsted said about Sirius Academy West
Overview
Leaders are described as “ambitious” and keen to prepare pupils for life beyond school, having introduced a “much more appropriate and challenging curriculum” since the previous inspection. While the quality of education and personal development are rated Good, behaviour and attitudes require improvement, with some pupils not yet meeting the high expectations set by leaders.
Strengths
- Teachers possess “strong subject knowledge” and use effective assessment routines, such as the ‘connect’ activity, to address misconceptions.
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are “well supported” through individual ‘pupil pen portraits’.
- The sixth form provision is strong, with students enjoying their time and receiving good guidance for university and employment applications.
- A “strong culture of safeguarding” ensures pupils feel safe, with staff being “vigilant” and working closely with external agencies.
- Leaders have reduced knowledge gaps caused by the pandemic and encourage participation in a broad range of extra-curricular activities.
Areas to improve
- Leaders must reduce the number of suspensions and internal exclusions, as too many pupils are missing out on learning due to behaviour issues.
- The programme to support the weakest readers is “in its infancy”; leaders should accelerate implementation to help these pupils catch up quickly.
- Some pupils do not benefit sufficiently from spiritual, moral, social and cultural learning; leaders should strengthen this area to ensure pupils retain respect for different faiths and values.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with a “strong culture of safeguarding throughout the school” that is high profile and supported by detailed local knowledge.
