Somerton Primary

Overview

Somerton Primary School operates effectively within a federation with Eveswell Primary, sharing leadership and resources to mutually benefit pupils. Leaders have established a safe, supportive environment where staff know pupils well, fostering strong relationships and high behavioural expectations. However, recent significant staff absences have impacted the consistency of teaching and learning approaches.

Strengths

• Pupils develop their knowledge and skills well, making "strong progress from their starting points."
• There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities and visits that encourage pupils to develop new skills and extend their learning.
• Staff are beginning to help pupils develop leadership skills through various pupil voice groups.

Areas to improve

• Improve the quality and consistency of teaching to ensure all pupils have suitable challenge and are actively engaged.
• Improve learning environments, particularly for younger pupils, to support the development of independence and curiosity.
