Check the area around this school
47th of 391 primary schools in Essex we can score, 444 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to the 3,124 schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — a tougher field — and it places 7.9/10 among them, against 8.5/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 78.0 · 84 | 40% | 3.36 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 17.0 · 87 | 25% | 2.18 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

What Ofsted said about South Benfleet Primary School
Overview
South Benfleet Primary School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. Pupils love attending this “warm and welcoming school” and are “eager to learn about the world they live in.” The school provides a positive environment where children develop confidence, achieve well, and represent the school with pride in the community.
Strengths
- The curriculum is well-designed, with staff having a “secure understanding of the subjects they teach” and presenting information clearly.
- Reading is a strong feature; staff identify early-stage readers with precision, helping pupils become “confident and fluent readers” who “learn to love reading.”
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) achieve well due to “precise and effective bespoke support” that balances assistance with independence.
- Behaviour is excellent, with staff establishing “clear routines and expectations” from Reception, resulting in pupils who “behave very well.”
- The personal, social, health and economic education curriculum ensures pupils have a “secure understanding of what makes a healthy relationship” and respect for diversity.
Areas to improve
- In some subjects within the wider curriculum, teaching does not consistently link existing and new knowledge, meaning pupils do not secure as “deep an understanding” as they do in other areas. The school should ensure all subjects provide precise opportunities to connect prior learning to new learning.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
