South Farnborough Infant School

Overview

South Farnborough Infant School is described as a "caring and kind community" where pupils are "happy, well looked after and safe." The inspection found that the school provides a high-quality education with "positive" behaviour and effective safeguarding, though it identified specific areas regarding curriculum assessment and teaching precision that require strengthening.

Strengths

• Pupils are "happy and inquisitive learners" who enjoy a "broad range of learning activities" and develop independence from the early years.
• Relationships between staff and pupils are "respectful and nurturing," with pupils confident that adults will help them with concerns.
• Reading is prioritised effectively, with "effective phonics teaching" ensuring pupils become "confident, fluent and avid readers."
• Staff have "ambitious expectations" for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), providing swift and effective support.
• The personal development programme broadens pupils’ experiences, fostering positive attitudes, respect, and an understanding of healthy relationships.

Areas to improve

• Assessment arrangements are "not developed sufficiently across all subjects," hindering the school’s ability to understand precisely how well pupils are learning over time.
• Occasionally, teachers do not design tasks that support pupils to learn the intended curriculum effectively, meaning some pupils do not gain as much knowledge as they could.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
