St Aidan's Church of England Academy

Overview

Pupils “thrive in this school,” forming positive relationships and demonstrating “excellent behaviour” within a calm and orderly environment. The report highlights an “enriching personal development offer” that prepares pupils exceptionally well for their next steps, with staff maintaining high expectations for learning and conduct.

Strengths

• Personal development is rated Outstanding, with pupils showing “respect, consideration and kindness” and being “very well prepared for life in modern Britain.”
• Reading instruction is effective, with pupils learning to read early and achieving well through a carefully followed phonics programme.
• The mathematics curriculum ensures pupils grasp number facts and receive “extra effective support” for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
• Behaviour is excellent, supported by a revised policy that recognises positive actions and a “skilful, nurturing approach” for those needing support.
• Staff are proud of their work, and governors “hold leaders to account” while thoughtfully investing time in the school’s improvement.

Areas to improve

• In a few subjects, the school does not clearly identify the “smaller steps of knowledge” staff should teach, causing pupils to occasionally miss steps in their learning. The school should ensure key knowledge is identified across all subjects and phases.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
