St Anne's & Avondale Park Nursery School

Overview

The report describes a nursery where children settle quickly and play happily within a "nurturing atmosphere." Leaders maintain high expectations, focusing on building resilience and independence, while staff support children with warmth and sensitivity. The school is judged as 'Good' overall, with 'Outstanding' ratings for behaviour and personal development.

Strengths

• Children behave impeccably, understanding clear routines and learning to "solve conflicts positively" and be respectful.
• The curriculum places a strong focus on communication and language, with staff modelling language and engaging in "back-and-forth conversation."
• Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are "extremely well supported" through effective systems involving staff and external agencies.
• Staff feel valued and listened to, appreciating the "real care given to their well-being" by leaders.
• Children experience a rich range of activities, including visits to woodland areas and workshops with artists and authors, broadening their cultural experiences.

Areas to improve

• In some areas of learning, the "small component steps of knowledge" are not well defined, meaning planned tasks do not always build cumulatively on previous learning. Leaders are addressing this to ensure learning is purposeful.
