St Bernadette's RC Primary

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited St Bernadette’s RC Primary in September 2025 and evaluated the school’s work against national quality indicators. The report concludes that the school is “good” in both “Learning, teaching and assessment” and “Raising attainment and achievement.” Inspectors express confidence that the school has the capacity to continue improving, meaning no further visits will be made in connection with this inspection.

Strengths

• The school is “Led ably by the acting headteacher,” with staff working collaboratively and being “highly reflective” to ensure consistency and quality in learning.
• Staff “embody the Gospel values,” creating a “nurturing and inclusive learning environment” where children are happy and have a “strong sense of belonging.”
• Effective interventions are planned for children requiring support, helping those facing barriers to “accelerate their progress in literacy and numeracy” and close attainment gaps.

Areas to improve

• Staff should increase the pace of learning in literacy and numeracy for some children to ensure they experience the “right level of challenge.”
• As new numeracy resources are embedded, staff must refine their approach by balancing practical and written tasks to help children develop “sharper recall of numeracy concepts.”
• Teachers should further develop their understanding of national standards to make “increasingly robust judgements” about children’s progress and attainment across the curriculum.

Safeguarding

The report does not contain specific commentary on safeguarding arrangements, focusing instead on learning, teaching, and attainment.
