St. Ethelwolds

Overview

Leaders and staff work diligently to create a "safe and nurturing learning environment" where pupils benefit from their care. While many pupils make "suitable progress" and develop effective ICT skills, the report notes that standards in Welsh and numeracy are not developed strongly enough, requiring improvement.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate "Good" wellbeing and attitudes, being "courteous, polite and helpful" with positive engagement in learning.
• The school provides "Good" care, support, and guidance, maintaining strong relationships with parents and effective tracking of pupil progress.
• Many pupils develop "effective information and communication technology (ICT) skills," using them skilfully to enhance learning across the curriculum.
• The learning environment is described as "attractive and well organised," supporting the school’s ethos and values.

Areas to improve

• Improve pupils’ numeracy and Welsh oracy skills, as many reach only "satisfactory standards" in these areas.
• Enhance pupils’ spelling and their ability to use punctuation accurately, which remains a weakness across the school.
• Ensure teaching challenges all pupils at an appropriate level and that improvement processes effectively address shortcomings in standards.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding "meet requirements and give no cause for concern."
