St Finlough's Primary School Sistrakeel

Overview

The inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, with teachers refusing to engage with the process. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes that the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Year 6 and 7 children spoke “very positively about the enjoyable learning experiences in reading and the World Around Us curricular area.”
• Year 7 pupils are “well-informed about the local history of the Viking heritage.”
• Children have opportunities to take on roles of responsibility as “digital leaders” and members of the School- and Eco-councils.
• A programme of optional after-school activities allows children to develop football and hurling skills, with some participating in the school choral group.

Areas to improve

• The report does not list specific areas for improvement because the ETI was “unable to evaluate” outcomes, quality of provision, and leadership due to staff non-cooperation.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” and children reported feeling safe, though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements.”
