St Luke's Park Primary School

Overview

St Luke’s Park Primary School is a relatively new academy where pupils are “happy” and feel “safe and supported” within a “close-knit community”. The report highlights that leaders have managed growth “calmly and thoughtfully”, resulting in good outcomes for most pupils, particularly in reading. However, the early years provision requires improvement due to a curriculum that lacks clarity and does not yet help children build secure foundations for future learning.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate “friendly and polite” behaviour and respond positively to school values, feeling “settled and ready to learn”.
• The reading programme is effective, with staff helping pupils develop “strong habits” and a “real love of books” through engaging routines.
• Leaders provide “care and determination” in supporting pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, ensuring they are included in lessons.
• Staff and parents value the “calm, welcoming atmosphere” and recent changes that have brought “greater stability” to the school.

Areas to improve

• The early years curriculum “lacks sufficient clarity”, meaning staff are not consistently clear on key knowledge, which affects how well children build firm foundations.
• Some pupils have “gaps in their foundational knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling”, limiting their ability to write with accuracy and clarity.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
