St Mary's Primary School

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was conducted during industrial action involving "action short of strike," resulting in non-cooperation from teaching staff. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to evaluate the quality of learning and teaching or the school’s capacity for improvement. The report concludes that the ETI is "unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children."

Strengths

• The previous inspection in 2013 had evaluated the school’s overall effectiveness as "very good."
• Evidence provided indicated that safeguarding arrangements "reflect the guidance issued by the relevant Departments."
• A group of year 6 and 7 children reported that they "enjoy their learning, feel safe and secure within school and know what to do if they have any concerns."

Areas to improve

• The report states that the school is a "high priority for future inspection with no further notice" due to the inability to assess educational quality.
• The inspection could not evaluate "the lines of enquiry" or "the quality of learning and teaching within the classrooms."

Safeguarding

The report confirms that safeguarding arrangements reflect official guidance and that pupils feel safe and secure, knowing how to raise concerns.
