Overview

Pupils are happy and feel safe, displaying positive attitudes and good behaviour in a calm, orderly environment. However, the quality of education and leadership require improvement because expectations for older pupils are not high enough, and the curriculum lacks ambition. Consequently, some pupils complete work that is too easy, hindering their preparation for the next stage of education.

Strengths

• The early years provision is good, with a "well-planned and ambitious" curriculum that builds vocabulary and mathematical understanding.
• Behaviour and attitudes are good; pupils are polite, respectful, and show "positive attitudes to their learning" with rarely any disruption.
• Personal development is good, supported by strong pastoral care and a clear understanding of healthy relationships and equality.
• Reading is a high priority, with effective phonics teaching and interventions ensuring pupils "develop a love of reading".
• Staff appreciate recent cultural changes, including improved communication and a greater focus on their well-being.

Areas to improve

• The curriculum is "not as ambitious as it should be," resulting in work that is too easy for some pupils and limiting their achievement.
• Assessment strategies are ineffective; misconceptions in written work are not routinely addressed, causing pupils to "repeat the same mistakes over time".
• Leaders lack sufficient oversight of weaker provision and do not have an "accurate understanding of the effectiveness of curriculum implementation".
