St Teilos RC School

Overview

The report describes a school with a "very caring and inclusive ethos" where most pupils achieve appropriate standards and show pride in their work. However, overall standards and leadership are judged as "adequate and needs improvement," particularly regarding the underachievement of more able pupils and inconsistent teaching quality.

Strengths

• Pupils display a "positive attitude to learning" and the school fosters a "calm nurturing environment" where nearly all feel safe.
• Teachers provide "effective support for pupils with additional learning needs," who consequently "make good progress over time."
• The school offers a "wide range of relevant intervention programmes" and maintains strong relationships with parents and external agencies.
• Pupils develop effective ICT skills, with "awareness of e-safety" noted as a specific strength.

Areas to improve

• The school must "improve pupils’ Welsh language skills," as they remain "under developed" with limited conversational ability.
• Leadership arrangements need formal definition, specifically to cover responsibilities "in the absence of the headteacher."
• The school should "increase the opportunities for more able and talented pupils to achieve their full potential," as they often underachieve.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils meet requirements and do not give cause for concern."
