St Therese of Lisieux Primary School

Overview

The inspection was severely limited by industrial action, with staff refusing to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was “unable to assure” parents of the quality of education or safeguarding provided. The school is designated a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• The report identifies no strengths, as the ETI was “unable to evaluate” outcomes for learners, quality of provision, or leadership and management.
• No positive judgements were made regarding curriculum, teaching, or care and welfare due to the lack of available evidence.
• The report does not praise any specific aspects of the school’s operations or community engagement.

Areas to improve

• The school must address the lack of evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect or reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”
• The ETI requires assurance on the “quality of education and safeguarding being provided for the children.”
• The school needs to resolve the industrial action issues to allow for a full evaluation of educational provision.

Safeguarding

The ETI returned in October 2017 and noted that the school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance issued by the Department of the Education,” although a full evaluation of their outworking remained impossible due to ongoing industrial action.
