Stenhouse Primary School

Overview

The inspection found that the headteacher provides “clear and effective strategic leadership” with a focus on raising attainment. Staff foster a “caring, inclusive culture” where children feel supported, though the school requires further development in curriculum breadth and consistency of teaching practices.

Strengths

• The headteacher offers “clear and effective strategic leadership” with a renewed focus on improvement priorities.
• Staff establish “warm, respectful and nurturing relationships” with children, creating an environment where most feel “supported, valued and ready to learn.”
• Children’s views are “valued and acted upon,” with pupils actively involved in school improvement.
• Staff collaborate effectively with partners to “enrich the curriculum” and support families.

Areas to improve

• Staff must improve learning, teaching, and assessment to ensure “greater consistency across the school,” including approaches that promote independence.
• Senior leaders should further develop the curriculum to ensure all children experience a “broad and balanced curriculum” reflecting their interests.
• Actions are needed to raise attainment in literacy and numeracy, alongside more “systematic and measurable analysis of data” to track progress.

Safeguarding

The report states that the nursery class was inspected by the Care Inspectorate within the past 18 months and is therefore not part of this inspection, while noting that the school ensures wellbeing, equality, and inclusion is evaluated as “good”.
