Sunnybank School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Sunnybank School and its Early Learning and Childcare setting in February 2023. The report highlights a supportive culture with strong relationships between staff and children, but identifies significant weaknesses in raising attainment and achievement. Consequently, the school requires additional support and will undergo a further inspection within one year.

Strengths

• There are "caring and nurturing relationships between staff and children," creating a supportive culture that helps children settle quickly.
• Children are described as "polite," "friendly, respectful and keen to learn."
• In the Language Support Provision, staff use "effective strategies to support children to overcome any difficulties," helping them develop communication skills well.

Areas to improve

• The school must "improve children’s progress and attainment across the curriculum" in both the school and Early Learning and Childcare setting.
• Leaders need to "improve the consistency, quality and approaches to learning, teaching and assessment," ensuring learning is at the right level of difficulty.
• Staff should "develop further their use of data to inform effective planning, assessment and tracking," particularly for children facing barriers to learning.

Safeguarding
