The British Muslim School

Overview: The British Muslim School is a small, independent Islamic boarding and day school for boys. While the school has made progress in some areas, it requires improvement in the quality of education and leadership and management.

Strengths:

• Pupils behave well and attend school regularly.
• Positive relationships between staff and pupils.
• Pupils are keen to contribute and share their ideas in lessons.
• The school has a clear programme in place for its citizenship, relationship and sex education (RSE) curriculum.
• Pupils have opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
• The school has a suitable careers programme in place for all pupils.
• Staff enjoy working at the school and feel well supported by leaders.
• Parents are positive about the school and the work they do to support their children.

Areas to improve:

• In some subjects, the school has not identified and set out the smaller blocks of knowledge pupils need to complete more complex tasks.
• There are inconsistencies in the implementation of the curriculum, with some teachers not checking pupils' understanding regularly enough or spotting errors and misconceptions quickly.
• The citizenship curriculum at key stage 4 is not as well developed as it is at key stage 3.
