The Chalet School

Overview

The Chalet School is a special school for autistic pupils with education, health and care plans. The inspection found that the school meets the "Expected standard" across all key judgement areas, providing a nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and valued.

Strengths

• Pupils achieve well because learning is "precisely aligned to their starting points" and individual curriculum goals.
• Attendance is consistently in line with or above the national average due to "skilled, targeted support" for families.
• Behaviour is positive with "no bullying" occurring, as pupils are well supported to manage emotions.
• Inclusion is effective, with leaders having a "precise understanding of pupils’ varied needs" and barriers to learning.
• Personal development is supported by a "comprehensive" relationships and health education programme and enrichment activities.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must support staff in refining the implementation of the communication strategy to ensure "consistently high-quality" provision.
• Staff need the necessary knowledge and skills to implement curriculum, teaching, and assessment strategies "consistently to a high quality across all areas of learning."

Safeguarding

The safeguarding standards are met, with leaders establishing an "open culture in which safeguarding is everyone's responsibility" and concerns are actively managed.
