The Collett School

Overview

The Collett School continues to be a good school, providing an ambitious curriculum tailored to pupils with complex needs and significant prior educational gaps. Pupils are described as happy, secure, and well-prepared for their next steps in education, employment, or training, benefiting from high-quality pastoral support and strong relationships with staff.

Strengths

• The curriculum is well designed to help pupils catch up, with teachers presenting knowledge in small chunks and checking for secure understanding before progressing.
• Pupils receive effective support for their special educational needs and disabilities, including expert phonics teaching that builds confidence and fluency.
• Behaviour is generally good, with staff responding effectively to emotional regulation challenges and maintaining calm, purposeful classrooms.
• Pupils are well prepared for adulthood through work experience, accreditations, and learning to make safe choices in various contexts.
• Leaders and governors maintain positive relationships with parents and staff, who speak highly of the support for staff well-being.

Areas to improve

• For some subjects, the school must provide clearer guidance on exactly what knowledge pupils must remember to prevent them from forgetting key information.
