The Gattons Infant School

Overview

The Gattons Infant School is described as a "happy and caring school" where pupils "enjoy learning" and behave well. Leaders have designed an "ambitious and broad curriculum" that prepares pupils effectively for their next steps, with strong progress noted in reading, mathematics, and music.

Strengths

• Pupils are "kind and considerate" and "play with each other joyfully," demonstrating good behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Teachers "know their pupils well" and provide effective adaptations for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
• The assessment system is "well thought through," particularly in subjects like history where gaps in learning are addressed.
• Pupils "love reading" and benefit from teachers who are "trained well to teach phonics."
• Governors "hold leaders to account well," and staff feel supported with appropriate workloads and high-quality training.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must ensure that activities teachers design are "focused on what pupils should learn" so that skills and knowledge are clear.
• In some subjects, including phonics, teachers must check pupils’ understanding "precisely" and address gaps in learning "quickly" to prevent inaccurate learning.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
