The Keystone Academy

Overview

The Keystone Academy is described as a "caring and vibrant school" where pupils’ best interests are central. While behaviour, personal development, and leadership are rated as good, the quality of education requires improvement due to inconsistencies in curriculum planning and delivery.

Strengths

• Staff are "highly skilled and expert at supporting pupils to settle and manage their behaviours positively," creating a safe and happy environment.
• Personal development is "very well supported," with pupils encouraged to understand their emotions and prepare for future careers.
• Reading is prioritised effectively, with strategies helping pupils "catch up quickly" and become fluent readers.
• Trustees are "highly supportive," working closely to share high aspirations and ensure pupils receive the best possible experiences.

Areas to improve

• The secondary curriculum does not build coherently from the primary phase, resulting in a "disjointed education" as pupils move between key stages.
• In parts of the primary curriculum, key knowledge, skills, and vocabulary are not identified or sequenced clearly, which "slows down pupils’ learning."
• There is variability in curriculum delivery; at times, subject matter is not presented "sharply enough," leaving pupils unclear on how to complete activities.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
