Check the area around this school
44th of 56 secondary schools in Staffordshire we can score, 70 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Its results hold up when the comparison narrows to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — 1.1/10 against 577 of them, against 0.9/10 nationally. So this is not simply a reflection of who attends. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.84 |
| Grade 5+ English & maths 2025/26 | 26.9 · 10 | 30% | 0.30 |
| Progress 8 2023/24 | -0.72 · 8 | 25% | 0.19 |
| Attainment 8 2025/26 | 36.9 · 9 | 10% | 0.09 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.
The King's CofE Academy overview
How it's doing
The school is rated Good by Ofsted following an inspection in 2024. In 2024/25, 27.0% of pupils achieved Grade 5 or above in English and maths. Attainment 8 was 40.1, compared to the national median of 44.6. Progress 8 was -0.72 in 2023/24, indicating pupils did worse than those nationally who started from the same place. Its results are much the same when the comparison narrows to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds, so the gap is not explained by intake (1.5 out of 10 against similar schools, 1.2 out of 10 against all schools).
Beyond the classroom
An after-school club is available for pupils.
Getting in
The published school roll is 732 pupils against a stated capacity of 750. These whole-school figures do not establish entry-year vacancies or the likelihood of an offer. Confirm entry-year availability and admissions criteria with the school or local authority.

How does the school support pupils to close the gap between their current attainment and the national median? What specific strategies are used to improve Progress 8 scores for students starting from similar backgrounds? How does the after-school club integrate with the wider curriculum to support learning?
What Ofsted said about The King's CofE Academy
Overview
The King’s CofE Academy continues to be a good school, described as a “caring school with a strong sense of community” where positive relationships underpin all work. Pupils feel happy and safe, benefiting from high behavioural expectations and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities that are “flourishing.”
Strengths
- Staff know pupils well, and bullying is rare; when it occurs, staff deal with it effectively.
- The curriculum is well planned to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
- Lessons follow clear routines, such as ‘do now’ tasks, helping pupils remember and apply learning.
- Reading support programmes are well planned, helping pupils develop vocabulary and fluency.
- Sixth-form students access a broad range of qualifications and extended opportunities, including roles as ‘well-being ambassadors’.
Areas to improve
- The school must continue working with families to reduce high absence rates, which prevent some pupils from achieving their full potential.
- Uptake of language options at key stage 4 is low, resulting in few pupils studying the full English Baccalaureate; plans to develop the language curriculum at key stage 3 should continue.
- A small number of pupils do not use teacher feedback effectively; the school must ensure pupils respond to feedback and that teachers check these responses carefully.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
