Check the area around this school
51st of 78 secondary schools in Hertfordshire we can score, 82 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to the 876 schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — a tougher field — and it places 3.5/10 among them, against 4.6/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.

What Ofsted said about The Knights Templar School
Overview
The Knights Templar School continues to be a good school, providing a calm and orderly environment where pupils are happy, feel safe, and are kind to one another. Leaders have created a well-planned, broad, and balanced curriculum that enables pupils to develop sufficient knowledge and skills for further study, supported by staff with good subject knowledge.
Strengths
- Pupils are happy, feel safe, and are safe, with bullying occurring infrequently and adults dealing with concerns seriously.
- The curriculum is well planned and sequenced, enabling pupils to achieve well, including in key stage 4 examinations.
- Reading is a priority, with assessments on entry ensuring the weakest readers receive additional support, including from trained ‘reading leaders’.
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) achieve well, with strategies in place to support them effectively in lessons.
- A strong feature of the school is the variety of trips, visits, and enrichment activities, including a heavily subscribed Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
Areas to improve
- In some subjects, leaders and teachers do not routinely use assessment well to identify what pupils know and can do, meaning misconceptions or gaps in learning are not always identified.
- Leaders have not created a fully coherent programme of wider personal development at key stage 5, resulting in insufficient opportunities for sixth-form students to learn about relevant life skills.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with clear and rigorous systems for reporting concerns, though leaders are addressing minor administrative errors in the monitoring of the single central record and training records.
