The Park School

Overview

The Park School is a special academy for pupils with moderate learning difficulties where leaders maintain high standards and a pupil-centred approach. Inspectors found that staff foster strong, trusting relationships, ensuring pupils feel happy, safe, and well-supported in their personal development and education.

Strengths

• Staff "skilfully foster pupils’ self-confidence and self-esteem" through professional, respectful relationships.
• The curriculum is "well-crafted" with "in-built flexibility" to effectively meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
• Pupils benefit from a "wide range of interesting opportunities," including clubs, trips, and leadership roles like school councillors.
• Attendance is high due to "robust and effective systems" involving close work with families and agencies.
• Personal development is central, with pupils learning life skills and engaging in mature debates on topics such as tolerance and disability.

Areas to improve

• Teachers must ensure pupils "remember prior learning sufficiently well" by helping them make links with previous knowledge, as this is currently hindered.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
