The Ropemakers' Academy

Overview

The report describes a school where pupils feel happy and safe, benefiting from a nurturing approach and high staff expectations. Leaders provide an ambitious, personalised curriculum that supports pupils’ academic progress and broader development, including preparation for adulthood.

Strengths

• Pupils are settled quickly and benefit from a "nurturing approach built on love, compassion and kindness".
• The curriculum is "ambitious and well planned" and personalised to match each pupil’s needs.
• Staff effectively support engagement, resulting in "very little low-level disruption in class".
• Reading is a high priority, with a "well-structured programme" helping pupils learn to read with fluency.
• There is a clear careers education programme, including work experience and nationally recognised qualifications.

Areas to improve

• Leaders should continue work to support pupils in key stages 3 and 4 to attend school habitually, as irregular attendance negatively impacts their preparation for the future.
• The local governing body must take responsibility for monitoring school policies regularly to ensure they are fully up to date and refer specifically to the school.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with meticulous checks on staff suitability and detailed policies ensuring the school community knows how to handle concerns.
