The Warwickshire Academy

Overview

The Warwickshire Academy is described as a "caring and welcoming community" where staff know pupils individually, fostering a culture of respect and high expectations. The school provides a "well-sequenced curriculum" that successfully addresses knowledge gaps for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, supported by effective phonics programmes and strong attendance initiatives.

Strengths

• Staff create a safe environment using clear behaviour frameworks like ‘BEAR’ and ‘triple R’, helping pupils behave well and work hard.
• The curriculum is carefully constructed to fill significant knowledge gaps, with individualised approaches that allow staff to quickly adapt to pupil needs.
• A structured phonics programme effectively helps pupils who join lacking confidence to read successfully.
• The comprehensive PSHE programme, combined with therapeutic support and real-world experiences, helps pupils manage emotions and stay safe.
• Staff morale is high due to a supportive culture, and the school fosters good links with parents and carers.

Areas to improve

• Teachers lack secure subject knowledge in some areas, meaning they do not consistently use assessment to identify misconceptions or deepen understanding.
• The careers programme is not comprehensive, leaving some pupils without sufficient information or experience of the world of work to make informed choices about their next steps.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
