Thurcroft Infant School

Overview

Thurcroft Infant School is described as a "warm, caring school" with "high expectations" for pupil achievement. The inspection found that the quality of education, behaviour, personal development, leadership, and early years provision are all judged as Good.

Strengths

• Pupils are "well prepared to move into key stage 2" and demonstrate "good manners" and independence.
• The school prioritises reading, ensuring books are "matched carefully to the sounds that they know," helping pupils build confidence.
• Mathematics teaching has improved, allowing pupils to develop "problem-solving and reasoning skills" and show "resilience."
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are "identified early and supported well," making good progress.
• Staff feel "supported" by leaders, who take care to consider workload and well-being.

Areas to improve

• Staff do not always "check carefully enough how well pupils are learning," leading to gaps in knowledge for some pupils. The school must ensure staff check learning rigorously to identify those needing support.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
