Check the area around this school
64th of 279 primary schools in Devon we can score, 309 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Its results hold up when the comparison narrows to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — 6.5/10 against 3,909 of them, against 6.4/10 nationally. So this is not simply a reflection of who attends. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 70.0 · 65 | 40% | 2.61 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 9.0 · 61 | 25% | 1.53 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

What Ofsted said about Tidcombe Primary School
Overview
Tidcombe Primary School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. Pupils love to learn, display positive attitudes, and are proud of the friendships they build. The school is ambitious for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, who meet these high expectations.
Strengths
- The school has developed a "broad and rich curriculum" that helps pupils build knowledge over time and connect ideas from different subjects.
- Pupils have a "love of reading" and become "confident and fluent readers" due to a consistent approach to phonics and quick identification of those needing extra help.
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities "achieve well," with staff supporting them to effectively learn the full curriculum alongside their peers.
- Personal development is a strength, with pupils benefiting from opportunities to learn about key historical figures and using a "well-resourced outdoor learning space."
- Staff feel supported by leaders and are "proud to work at the school" following a sustained programme of improvement.
Areas to improve
- In the early years, activities in continuous provision and adult interactions are variable, meaning some children do not achieve as well as they could or are not ready for Year 1.
- Learning activities are not always adapted well enough to meet the needs of all pupils, resulting in some completing work that is "not ambitious enough."
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
