Toryglen Primary School

Overview

Inspectors visited Toryglen Primary School in October 2023 and found that staff have created “calm and purposeful learning environments” where they know children well. However, the report identifies significant weaknesses in leadership, wellbeing, and attainment, noting that the school requires “additional support and more time to make necessary improvements.”

Strengths

• Staff provide “caring and nurturing support” which helps children engage positively with school.
• Teachers use digital technologies to “enhance learning and teaching across the curriculum,” supporting the development of digital skills.
• In the language and communication resource (LCR), staff collaborate to develop experiences based on children’s interests, helping them make “good progress in their learning.”

Areas to improve

• Senior leaders must improve the “leadership of learning, teaching and raising attainment” to help staff evaluate progress more accurately.
• Staff need to improve learning and teaching to ensure all children receive “high-quality experiences that match well to their learning needs.”
• Leaders must develop effective systems to plan and monitor additional support, while staff work to “raise attainment and increase children’s progress in literacy and numeracy.”

Safeguarding

The report evaluates the quality indicator for “Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion” as “weak” and states that senior leaders need to develop systems to better meet all children’s wellbeing needs.
