Tredegar Park Primary

Overview

Tredegar Park Primary is described as a "caring school with support for pupil well-being at its heart," where the headteacher provides "strong leadership." The report highlights that many pupils join with skills "considerably lower than those normally expected for their age," yet staff work hard to help them make "sound progress from their starting points."

Strengths

• Leaders have created a "whole school vision" that focuses well on the school’s context and community.
• The curriculum encourages aspiration, helping pupils think about "what they want to become when they are older."
• Pupils benefit from lessons on developing relationships and keeping "themselves safe online."
• Pupils with additional needs receive "good support" and are encouraged to play a "full part in work of the school."
• The governing body plays an "active role," ensuring the school provides "good value for the parents."

Areas to improve

• In younger classes, there is "too much emphasis on highly structured lessons," which inhibits curiosity and independence.
• A minority of teachers in older classes do not "challenge pupils well enough" in independent learning tasks.
• The school must strengthen pupils’ "independent reading skills" and improve their "use of spoken Welsh."

Safeguarding

The report states that staff support pupils to develop personal and social skills, including learning about "keeping themselves safe online."
