TREORCHY PRIMARY

Overview

Treorchy Primary School has established a “strong sense of community” and a “homely and inclusive ethos” that supports pupils to “believe, learn and grow” together. While pupils enjoy school and make good progress, the report notes that opportunities to apply numeracy skills and respond to feedback are “underdeveloped.”

Strengths

• Pupils display a “deep rooted” pride in their heritage and show “mutual respect” towards adults and peers.
• The school provides “interesting experiences” that help pupils develop confidence, aspirations, and strong literacy and mathematical skills.
• There are “very strong working relationships” between staff, which successfully supports learning and allows for adaptation to individual needs.
• The school has developed a “highly successful partnership with parents” through regular engagement activities that support the whole family.
• Pupils contribute enthusiastically to groups and committees, demonstrating good collaboration from a young age.

Areas to improve

• Teaching must consistently provide opportunities to develop pupils’ independent skills and challenge all pupils, particularly those who are more able.
• The quality of feedback needs development so that pupils clearly know how to improve their work.
• Pupils require sufficient opportunities to apply their numeracy skills in their work across the curriculum.

Safeguarding

The headteacher, school leaders, staff, and governors have placed “well-being and the care, support and guidance of all pupils at the heart of school life.”
