Tritlington Church of England First School

Overview

Pupils “thrive in this small rural school,” displaying “courtesy and good manners” within a “happy and inclusive culture.” Leaders have devised a curriculum that meets pupils’ needs, with a particular emphasis on reading and support for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The school has moved from a previous rating of “Requires improvement” to “Good” across all inspection categories.

Strengths

• Pupils feel safe, report that bullying does not happen, and maintain “warm and caring” relationships with staff.
• Leaders’ “passion and commitment to weave reading through all aspects of school life” ensures pupils become “confident, fluent readers.”
• High-quality individual plans and early identification of needs help pupils with SEND to “access the same curriculum” and succeed.
• Strong governance and partnerships with the diocese and local authority have driven improvements in “curriculum thinking.”
• Pupils develop “tolerance and respect” through diverse experiences, including learning about different cultures and careers.

Areas to improve

• In some foundation subjects, such as history, “essential knowledge that pupils need to learn is not sharply defined,” making it harder for pupils to link new learning to prior knowledge. Leaders must ensure all curriculum areas are “carefully structured, planned, and sequenced.”

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are “effective,” with staff trained to spot issues and systems in place to raise concerns “swiftly.”
