Tullygally Primary School

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was conducted in May 2018 following a previous evaluation of the school as “good”. Due to industrial action involving “non-co-operation” by teaching staff, the inspectorate could not evaluate classroom teaching or fully assess safeguarding arrangements. Consequently, the report states the ETI is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.”

Strengths

• Staff engaged in “significant professional development” to ensure a “progressive and sustained approach to problem solving throughout the curriculum.”
• Children “respond enthusiastically” to new strategies and have “developed their skills significantly” in problem solving.
• Staff are “developing and extending collegially the range of interventions” to support learning in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills.
• The special educational needs co-ordinator and teachers “analyse skilfully the efficacy of the interventions” to inform future provision, with “significant progress evidenced.”

Areas to improve

• The report identifies no specific areas for improvement, as the inspection focused on sustaining existing strategies rather than identifying new weaknesses.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and children reported feeling safe, but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
