Overview: Tynsel Parkes CofE Primary Academy has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection, with leaders, supported by the trust, having steered the school well through a period of considerable instability. The school is a caring, inclusive, and welcoming environment where pupils are proud to be part of the community.

Strengths:

• Pupils are proud to be part of this caring, inclusive, and welcoming school.
• Pupils build strong positive relationships with their teachers and each other, firmly rooted in the school’s ethos.
• The school has seen a recent rise in the number of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and staff meet pupils’ individual needs well, with pupils with SEND making sound progress through the school’s curriculum.
• Leaders are rightly proud of their work to promote pupils’ wider personal development, with pupils quickly developing a sense of advocacy for those less fortunate.
• Parents and carers value the work of the school and are very supportive.

Areas to improve:

• Sometimes, the school does not make sure that staff check pupils’ phonics knowledge carefully enough, which limits the progress pupils make in learning to read.
• On occasion, the school does not ensure that its high expectations for pupils’ behaviour are promoted well by staff, which holds back pupils’ learning.
