Waldo Williams Primary School

Overview

Waldo Williams Primary School is described as a “highly inclusive community driven by a clear sense of purpose and vision.” Staff prioritise well-being, ensuring pupils feel “valued and cared for,” while maintaining high expectations for behaviour. However, the report notes that teaching does not always provide sufficient challenge for all pupils, and there are too few opportunities to develop Welsh language skills.

Strengths

• Pupils interact with respect and courtesy, feeling “settled and secure” due to clear routines.
• Teaching effectively develops literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, including through “effective use of the outdoor areas.”
• The curriculum is inclusive, ensuring accessibility for all pupils, including those in the Learning Resource Centre.
• Senior leaders and governors are fully engaged, using a “rigorous approach to self-evaluation” to monitor progress.

Areas to improve

• Ensure teaching allows all pupils to consistently receive the “right level of challenge” to achieve their potential.
• Improve pupils’ Welsh speaking skills, as there are currently “too few opportunities” for this.
• Ensure the registration of pupils’ attendance meets statutory requirements, as pupils are currently registered for only nine rather than ten sessions each week.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school values being “safe” and that staff prioritise well-being, ensuring pupils feel “valued and cared for.”
