Check the area around this school
43rd of 55 primary schools in Peterborough we can score, 61 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds and it does better still — 3.2/10 against 1,044 of them, against 2.5/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 50.0 · 19 | 40% | 0.76 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 4.0 · 35 | 25% | 0.88 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

What Ofsted said about Welland Academy
Overview
Welland Academy has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. Pupils enjoy learning within a positive ethos, showing determination and pride in their achievements. The school successfully prepares children for their next steps in education through a well-structured curriculum and strong community values.
Strengths
- Pupils "enjoy and value learning," working hard in lessons and speaking "articulately about what they are learning."
- The curriculum ensures pupils learn in a "logical order" and routinely review content, helping them "remember much of what the school intends."
- Early reading is prioritised, with most pupils learning to read fluently by the end of key stage 1 through effective support.
- Behaviour is positive, with pupils understanding expectations and receiving recognition such as the ‘Golden Welly’ for good conduct.
- The school prepares pupils well for life after primary school, offering opportunities to develop talents, including learning musical instruments and visiting places of interest.
Areas to improve
- Occasionally, learning tasks for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are "not matched closely enough to their needs," meaning these pupils sometimes do not understand or remember what has been taught. The school needs to better support teachers to ensure activities consistently meet these needs.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
