What Ofsted said about West Bridgford Infant School
Overview
West Bridgford Infant School is described as a place where ‘bright ideas shine’, with pupils who are ‘well cared for and nurtured’ in an environment of ‘highly positive’ relationships. The report confirms that the school’s overall effectiveness, along with the quality of education, behaviour, personal development, leadership, and early years provision, is ‘Good’.
Strengths
- Phonics teaching is ‘well established’, ‘engaging and well paced’, enabling pupils to ‘soon master phonics and go on to become successful readers’.
- The curriculum is ‘comprehensively planned’ with content taught in a ‘well-sequenced order’, and teachers ‘adapt lessons skilfully to ensure that all pupils keep up’.
- Children in the early years get off to a ‘strong start’, supported by ‘meticulously planned’ curricula and ‘effective assessment arrangements’.
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities receive ‘effective help and support’ and are helped to learn the same curriculum as their peers.
- Leaders maintain ‘uncompromising high ambition for all pupils’ and provide well for those speaking English as an additional language.
Areas to improve
- In a small number of foundation subjects, the curriculum does not identify the most important content for long-term memory, limiting pupils’ recall.
- Assessment procedures in some subjects are not yet fully developed, preventing a ‘fully rounded view’ of pupil performance.
- Leaders do not always use the full range of available information to evaluate the impact of the school’s work, missing opportunities to identify strengths.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
