Westfield Infant School

Overview

Westfield Infant School is described as a “friendly, caring and welcoming” environment where pupils are “happy, successful and confident.” The report highlights a “purposeful atmosphere” with strong shared values, noting that parents are “overwhelmingly positive” about the provision.

Strengths

• The school delivers a “broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum” that effectively prepares children for Year 1 and Key Stage 2.
• Reading is a “top priority,” with an effective programme ensuring most pupils become “fluent and confident readers.”
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are identified early and receive “appropriate and thoughtful adaptations.”
• Staff are supported by the trust, valuing the “care and consideration that leaders give to their workload and well-being.”
• Pupils display “positive attitudes to learning,” behave well, and contribute to the local community.

Areas to improve

• Learning is not always adapted quickly enough in lessons, meaning some pupils do not build their knowledge as well as they could.
• In a few foundation subjects, newly implemented retrieval work is not yet fully embedded, limiting opportunities for pupils to secure key ideas.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
