Westminster Nursery School

Overview

Westminster Nursery School continues to be a good school, providing a welcoming environment where children are happy and settled. The school maintains high expectations for achievement, with staff fostering warm relationships and a calm atmosphere that supports purposeful play and learning.

Strengths

• Children are eager to learn, with play described as "purposeful" and inclusive of those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
• Staff use "consistent strategies" to encourage positive behaviour, resulting in respectful interactions and calm classrooms.
• The school has placed a "sharp focus on communication, language and literacy," using songs, rhymes, and animated story time to support development.
• Effective partnerships with parents and external agencies ensure children with SEND receive prompt help and benefit fully from their time at the nursery.
• The governing body supports staff well-being by reducing workload, allowing more time for interaction with children.

Areas to improve

• The school must refine its curriculum thinking so staff know "exactly what to teach and when," as unclear content in some areas limits vocabulary and skill building.
• Staff require support to implement all aspects of the curriculum consistently well, as inconsistent delivery currently hinders some children’s achievement.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
