Ysgol Gynradd Beaumaris

Overview

Nearly all pupils enjoy school and behave very well, treating peers and visitors with respect. However, the report states that special measures are required due to insufficient leadership monitoring, limited pupil independence, and inadequate planning for Welsh literacy and numeracy skills.

Strengths

• Pupils are polite, thoughtful, and take pride in the school.
• There is a close and supportive working relationship between staff and pupils.
• Teachers know pupils well and provide appropriate support.
• Lower year staff plan purposeful and stimulating activities that engage pupils effectively.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must improve self-evaluation and planning processes to identify all areas for improvement and raise standards.
• Teachers need to raise expectations and plan more thoroughly to develop pupils’ Welsh oral skills and mathematics abilities across the curriculum.
• Staff should provide more opportunities for pupils to make decisions and take responsibility for their own learning to foster independence.

Safeguarding

The report identifies health and safety concerns relating to the school grounds that require immediate attention.
