Overview

Ysgol T. Gwynn Jones is described as a “vibrant infant school” providing a “caring learning environment” where pupils demonstrate “high levels of wellbeing.” The report states that most pupils make “strong progress” in the foundation phase curriculum and participate “enthusiastically” in learning activities.

Strengths

• Pupils achieve “Good” standards across all inspection areas, including teaching, leadership, and care.
• Teachers create a “stimulating curriculum” with “rich opportunities to learn outdoors,” effectively developing physical skills through activities like sawing and gymnastics.
• The headteacher provides “purposeful direction,” fostering a strong team culture and engaging stakeholders such as parents and governors.
• Pupils display “positive attitudes to learning,” behaving well and showing resilience when facing challenging tasks.
• Staff monitor progress diligently, using effective strategies to support pupils with special educational needs and emotional requirements.

Areas to improve

• Focus self-evaluation activities more closely on monitoring the quality and impact of new initiatives.
• Improve arrangements for pupils in Reception and Year 1 who require support in literacy and numeracy.
• Improve opportunities for pupils to approach tasks independently and creatively, as adult structuring currently limits imagination.
