YSGOL Y CREUDDYN

Overview

Ysgol y Creuddyn is described as a “homely school” where pupil well-being and individual needs are central, fostering a close-knit community where pupils are “likeable and respectful.” The report highlights strong progress in learning, particularly in numeracy and Welsh language immersion, alongside an inclusive ethos that ensures nearly all pupils feel safe.

Strengths

• Pupils, including those with additional learning needs, make “sound progress” and apply subject knowledge purposefully across the curriculum.
• The school’s “purposeful planning” to develop the Curriculum for Wales and assess progress is notable, with numeracy development identified as a “notable strength.”
• Staff create a positive environment through “strong subject knowledge” and enthusiasm, acting as “positive language models” in most lessons.
• The “Immersion” provision successfully enables pupils from non-Welsh-speaking backgrounds to become fluent quickly.
• Sixth-form pupils are “extremely mature and polite,” making a valuable contribution to school life and leadership.

Areas to improve

• Strengthen accountability between leaders to respond more sharply to improvement priorities, such as attendance.
• Increase pupils’ use of the Welsh language, as expectations in some lessons are “too low.”
• Improve pupils’ attendance, which has remained static despite national improvements.

Safeguarding

The report states that “nearly all pupils feel safe within the inclusive ethos” and that the most vulnerable pupils receive “effective support in response to their individual needs.”
