Adderlane Academy

Overview

Adderlane Academy has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. The school provides a warm environment where pupils are safe, happy, and behave exceptionally well, abiding by a clear moral code. Parents are overwhelmingly happy with the provision, which supports individual talents and needs effectively.

Strengths

• Pupils achieve very well in phonics and multiplication checks, with the vast majority becoming fluent readers by Year 2.
• The curriculum builds foundational knowledge sequentially in English and mathematics, with the phonics programme delivered with "great expertise and confidence".
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities access the same curriculum as their peers and "progress through it well".
• Staff morale is very high, turnover is very low, and governance is described as "exceptionally strong, well organised, skilled and knowledgeable".
• The school enhances wider development through extensive extra-curricular activities, educational visits, and a strong focus on attendance and British values.

Areas to improve

• Occasionally, lessons do not focus sufficiently on the essential knowledge pupils need to learn, making it difficult for them to remember important information. The school should ensure activities focus appropriately on the specific knowledge set out in the curriculum.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
