Anahorish Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not co-operate with the process. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report states that “no performance level [is] available” for outcomes, provision, or leadership, and the school is designated a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• The school’s accommodation has been “recently enhanced through the Department of Education (DE) School Enhancement Programme.”
• Senior leadership and governors co-operated with the inspection regarding their safeguarding responsibilities.
• Children reported that they “feel safe in the school” and are “aware of what to do if they have any concerns about their safety or welfare.”
• Safeguarding arrangements were found to “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”

Areas to improve

• The school must “establish a schedule to update regularly the key safeguarding policies in line with changing legislation.”
• The ETI was unable to evaluate learning outcomes, curriculum quality, or leadership effectiveness due to the lack of teacher co-operation.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
