Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly constrained by industrial action, as teaching staff refused to co-operate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to fully evaluate the quality of education or assure stakeholders of its standards. The report concludes that the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Year 6 pupils highlighted the “caring nature of their teachers” and their enjoyment of the shared education partnership.
• Children demonstrated effective development of leadership capabilities through the School Council and the ‘playground pals’ scheme.
• Pupils reported that they “feel safe in school” and are aware of procedures for raising safety or welfare concerns.
• Children showed knowledge of how to keep safe online, both at school and at home.

Areas to improve

• The ETI was unable to evaluate the quality of learning and teaching or the school’s capacity for improvement due to non-co-operation.
• Unsecured access exists between the car park and the school site, despite risk reduction measures being in place.
• Three internal classrooms lack viewing panels in the doors, limiting visibility.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements reflect Department of Education guidance, and pupils reported feeling safe, though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the outworking of these arrangements due to the industrial action.
