Ashleworth Church of England Primary School

Overview

The report states that the school "requires special measures" because it is "failing to provide an acceptable standard of education" and leaders are "not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement." Pupils experience a "poor standard of education," with many lacking essential knowledge and skills, leaving them "ill-prepared for secondary school."

Strengths

• The safeguarding standards are met, with an "open culture in which safeguarding is everyone's responsibility."
• Pupils learn about "fundamental British values" and understand the "negative consequences of stereotypes."
• Pupils show "mature and considerate views" on family structures and gain some responsibility through roles like school councillors.
• Bullying is "not typically an issue," and older pupils interact positively with younger ones on the playground.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must urgently improve their capacity to identify and tackle weaknesses, ensuring staff develop the expertise to teach the curriculum well with high expectations.
• Leaders must ensure pupils master basic reading and writing skills and that gaps in knowledge across the curriculum are addressed.
• Leaders must ensure pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and disadvantaged pupils, receive precise support to learn independently.
• Leaders must implement behaviour systems fairly and consistently and improve systems to reduce persistent absence.

Safeguarding

The report confirms that "safeguarding standards are met," meaning leaders have established an open culture where concerns are actively identified and managed, ensuring pupils are made safer and feel safe.
