Baylis Court Nursery School

Overview

Baylis Court Nursery School continues to be a good school, providing a "nurturing environment" where children are "happy and safe." Leaders have high aspirations for all pupils, prioritising communication and language development within a curriculum designed to prepare children for their Reception Year and beyond.

Strengths

• Staff promote early language development effectively through songs, rhymes, and modelling new vocabulary, helping children to "use more words and understand their meaning."
• Mathematics teaching is particularly successful, with learning broken down into "key building blocks" to help adults check understanding before introducing new material.
• Children demonstrate positive attitudes and "curiosity and resilience," engaging in activities that build their understanding of the wider world and community.
• Staff feel "valued and supported by leaders," with workload and well-being considered carefully during curriculum improvements.
• The Dragonfly Resource Base allows children with autism to benefit from "playing and learning alongside children in the main school" while receiving tailored support.

Areas to improve

• The school must address low attendance, as "too many children do not attend the school regularly," causing them to miss significant periods of learning.
• The curriculum needs refinement to "consistently and precisely identify what children will learn and when," ensuring activities are matched to each child’s existing knowledge.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
