Black Horse Hill Infant School

Overview

Pupils attend a “caring and welcoming school family” where they arrive “happy and ready to learn.” The school maintains high aspirations, ensuring pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, “achieve well” within a “calm atmosphere” characterised by exceptional behaviour.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate “exemplary behaviour” and show “high levels of consideration and respect for others.”
• The curriculum is “well-ordered and suitably ambitious,” with early years provision ensuring children are “well prepared for their learning in future years.”
• Reading is a priority, supported by an “effective phonics programme” that helps pupils read with “confidence and fluency.”
• Staff “successfully adapt the delivery of the curriculum” to meet the needs of pupils with SEND, working effectively with external specialists.
• Governors “fulfil their responsibilities diligently” and staff value the “high-quality professional development” provided.

Areas to improve

• In a “small number of subjects,” staff do not “make the best use of assessment information when designing new learning,” meaning pupils sometimes do not “deepen their knowledge.”

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
